As part of Ladder programs, we facilitate local industry tours to give young people exposure to a wide range of different industries to learn more about what job opportunities are available to them. It is also a great opportunity for participants to connect with their local community and often employment or volunteer opportunities eventuate for participants.

Step Up Latrobe Valley Program 21 recently attended Latrobe Valley Bus lines for an industry tour. As part of the tour, our young people visited various workstations and were introduced to various roles within the organisation including a bus driver, mechanic, panel beater and painter.

They were able to get onto one of the Vline buses, sit in the driver’s seat and speak to the bus driver. They were also introduced to the electric bus which they will be excited to see driving around Latrobe Valley in January.

This tour was a real eye-opener for one of the participants.

“I am very interested in becoming a Bus Driver, I did not know before this how many different roles there are!”.

This young person has an interest in engineering and really enjoyed the workshop side of the business. Ladder Development Coaches will support this young person to find relevant courses and assist them in gaining a job taster or work experience in this area.
