Young people in the Ladder Step Up Sydney core program worked together to brainstorm ideas with the intention to bring them to life as a community project. The group chose to put together food and self-care hampers for those who are facing homelessness. Over the past 8 weeks, the young people worked together to create donation lists, flyers and organise drop off sites.

The young people and the Step Up Sydney team worked closely with PCYC Blacktown and PCYC Auburn throughout this project, who opened their doors to donations. The young people also attended a shopping day to purchase items for the hampers and learn about budgeting at the same time.

The young people packed the donations into reusable tote bags, which have now been distributed to the Marist 180 SHS program and Youth Off The Streets (Blacktown). Both services work with young people in vulnerable environments and said the hampers will be a great helping hand to those they service.

We are so proud of our young people for creating these hampers to go to those in need.
