Inspirational visit to the GWS GIANTS HQ

Staff writer

A group of young people from the Ladder Step Up Western Sydney program were given a special opportunity to visit the Greater Western Sydney Giants HQ this week. And fair to say, it didn't disappoint.

Ladder Development Coach, Julian Chung said the young people were excited all morning about the behind the scenes tour and the rare opportunity to meet professional AFL players.

"An 18-year-old young person was so eager, he asked if he could bring his footy boots along to the visit."

“After the GIANTS had finished their training session, the group were invited on to the training oval to practice their AFL skills. It was a wonderful moment for the young people."

The Club’s Community Engagement Coordinator showed the group around the different departments and the player's training facilities. Young people met a few players along the way who were more than happy to stop for a photo including 2017 Kevin Sheedy Medallist, Josh Kelly and ruckman, Rory Lobb.

"One young person who is a massive sports fan was so thrilled that he asked Rory for a hug," Ms Chung said.

"Along with the tour, the group participated in a development workshop on what it means to be successful and goal setting. The young people were keen to learn and were well engaged with the activity."

Ladder Development Coach, Codie Briggs said that the visit had opened up a whole new chapter for one of the participants.

“One of the young people was so inspired by the trip to the GIANTS HQ that he is now following up on joining a local Club so he can start playing himself."

"Thank you to the GWS GIANTS for facilitating such a positive and educational day for all of the young people involved."
